Hidden fossils reveal secrets of oceans before major mass extinction

According to evolution, one mass extinction took place many millions of years ago. The evidence for this was tiny fossils found in Australia.  However, the timing of the extinction was very wrong,

A tiny pellet of ancient rock, a mere half the size of a grain of rice, has yielded 20 microscopic fossils representing eight different species, including one that is entirely new to science. The discovery will enhance our understanding of the second-largest known mass extinction. It also shows how new analytical techniques are unlocking parts of the fossil record that according to evolution, have previously gone overlooked.

Jonathan Aitchison at the University of Queensland, Australia, and his colleagues extracted the pellet from a rock that was collected in late 2018 from the Sichuan basin in China, about 300 kilometres south of Xian. The rock is 445 million years old, which means it formed just before the Late Ordovician mass extinction – the second most severe to have occurred over the past 500 million years according to evolution.

What is a numbat? It is one of the world’s rarest marsupials. It is an endangered species that is probably making a comeback.

These adorable baby numbats are among a group of seven that have been recently spotted across two different wildlife sanctuaries in New South Wales, Australia. Conservationists are working to reintroduce the species, which has been extinct in the wild in New South Wales for more than 100 years. These sightings raise hopes that one of the world’s rarest marsupials might be making a comeback.

Australian moths use the stars as a compass on 1000-km migrations

Bogong moths are the first invertebrates known to navigate using the night sky during annual migrations to highland caves

Can the Australian moth use the stars to reach a destination that is a thousand kilometres away?

The answer seems to be Yes, they can. This is according to the latest research.   

An Australian moth that migrates over 1000 kilometres to seek respite from summer heat is the first known invertebrate to use the stars as a compass on long journeys.

Every spring, billions of bogong moths (Agrotis infusa) travel from various parts of southern Australia to cool caves in the Australian Alps after spending the winter as caterpillars feeding on vegetation. Once in the caves, they have a long period of inactivity, called aestivation, before returning to their breeding grounds.

It has long been a mystery exactly how these moths, whose numbers have been collapsing in recent years, navigate so far to these high country caves, says Andrea Adden at the Francis Crick Institute in London.

Previous studies have shown that they are able to use Earth’s electromagnetic field, but only in combination with landmarks they can see. Adden and her colleagues wanted to find out what other cues the moths may be using to navigate.

“If you go to the Australian bush, where these moths live, and look around at night, one of the most striking visual landmarks is the Milky Way,” she says. “We know that daytime migratory insects use the sun, so testing the starry sky seemed an obvious thing to try.”

To do so, the team caught moths during their migration using light traps and took them to a lab. There, the insects were placed in a Perspex arena and an image of the night sky was projected onto a screen above them. The moths were tethered inside the arena but could pick a flight direction based on the sky image. The researchers used a device called a Helmholtz coil to essentially cancel out Earth’s magnetic field.

The tests showed that the moths use a stellar compass, says team member Eric Warrant at Lund University, Sweden. “When tethered moths were placed under highly realistic local starry night skies, they flew in their inherited migratory direction,” he says. “They did this solely with the help of these stars – all other visual cues, as well as the Earth’s magnetic field, were absent.”

When the team turned the starry sky by 180 degrees, moths flew in the opposite direction, and when they randomly redistributed the natural stars across the image they were completely disoriented.

In a second experiment, the moths were fixed in place with a very thin electrode inserted in their brains. This revealed changes in the moths’ neural activity when the projected sky image was rotated.

Although dung beetles use the Milky Way to stay on the same bearing over short distances, no insect was known to use celestial navigation for migration until now.

“The bogong moth is the first invertebrate we know of that is able to use the stars as a compass for long-distance navigation to a distant destination that it has never previously been to,” says Warrant. “Only humans and some species of night migratory birds are known to have this ability.”

Another insect famous for long-distance migrations, the monarch butterfly (Danaus plexippus), uses the sun to navigate, factoring in the time of day.

It may be that intelligent design has given these moths the way to use the start and the worlds electromagnetic field to do this.

An Evolution Research Origin Story is Failing

 Evolution has hit a hurdle. It was supposed that a "whiff of oxygen" before the Earth's Great Oxygenation Event 2.3 billion years ago probably began approximately 2.5million years ago, according to a study published in Science Advances authored by Sarah Slotznick and colleagues.

 The new study has the potential to rewrite what is known of the planet's past.it claims that the oxygenation started much earlier,

The researchers examined samples from an area in western Australia where others found what they interpreted as evidence of transient appearances of oxygen as early as 2.5 billion years ago.

Conventional science has its hurdles. One of them is the believe in millions of years that we cannot fathom, 

Only creation based science has the answers.

Kangaroo Painting Found In Australia

Australian scientists have discovered the country's oldest known rock art - a 17,300-year-old painting of a kangaroo.

 The artwork measuring 2m (6.5ft) was painted in red ochre on the ceiling of a rock shelter. It was found in Western Australia's Kimberley region, known for its Aboriginal rock paintings.

Its age was determined by radiocarbon-dating ancient mud wasp nests. The findings were published on Tuesday in the journal Nature Human Behaviour.

However, its date does not take into account the flood of Noah’s days that would have subtracted a fraction of the sum.

Secularists propose an end to Snowball Earth

Researcher have found rocks that were forged 2.229 billion years ago, when an asteroid crashed into our planet. The rocks found in Australia, have come at a time that our planet endured the Snowball earth episode. They say that the crash caused a powerful greenhouse effect.

The Snowball Earth is a great problem that is still unanswered by science. As the belief is that the Sun was faint in the beginning, with only 70 per cent as powerful as now.

Other researchers are sceptical: they impact was just a third of the area that was said to killed off the dinosaurs some 66 millions of years ago, so how could it have such an effect on the climate?
