Last May, New Scientist admitted that liberals can be deluded.

And then paedophilia and polygamy are just waiting for their day.

It doesn’t end there. The Washington Times reports on a man who supposedly married his laptop:

“Chris Sevier says that if same-sex couples are able to get married and demand that Christian bakers make them wedding cakes, then he should be allowed to marry his laptop and demand a cake to celebrate the union between one man and one machine.

The self-identified ‘machinist’ says he married his laptop in a ceremony in New Mexico, and now he has sued to demand that a Colorado baker — who is already in court after refusing to bake for a same-sex marriage — must be compelled to make cakes for him and his computer ‘bride.’ He also has filed a lawsuit demanding that Utah recognize his man-object marriage.”

This reminds me of the title of one of Melanie Phillips’ books: The World Turned Upside Down.

As the Western nations are throwing away their rich Christian tradition, the result is total mayhem.

When society turns its back on Christian values, it usually opens the door to morally questionable issues, such as a disregard for human dignity and even human life.

It will ultimately lead to a culture of death.

This lesson was brought home by a video in which Dr. Deborah Nucatola, a senior executive at Planned Parenthood, discussed the prices of baby parts over lunch with two actors who were pretending to be buyers.

Unaware of being filmed, Dr. Nucatola explained how one could get body parts from aborted babies without wrecking them.

The video has caused outrage and rightly so. However, some newspapers have tried to play down the issue. What they have failed to see is that too many unborn humans have no human rights at all.

Fortunately, even among a culture that celebrates death, there are voices, such as abortion survivor Gianna Jessen, who would rather celebrate life as a gift from God than to succumb to the culture of death.

Thanking God for Civilisation without the Question Mark

New Scientist has not always been altogether friendly towards Biblical Christianity.

In what might at first glace seem like a different approach, a recent article in the magazine acknowledges that people are increasingly entertaining the idea that religion led to modernity.

Archaeology is actually a friend of the Bible-believer.

Places like Göbekli Tepe in Turkey suggest that the transcendent dimension played a major part in the birth of ancient civilisations. People built cities because they were religious. They did not become religious because they had built cities.

While the NS article recognises the role of religion, it urges people to leave that behind:

“But just because spirituality may have led to civilisation, it doesn't follow that it should lead it now. If religion did have an early founding role, we must acknowledge this, learn from it – and move on.”

However, we should perhaps stop for a second or two and think whether Germanwings co-pilot Andreas Lubitz on the ill-fated flight 9525 would have acted differently if he, instead of moving on, had really believed that he was accountable to His Maker not only for his own life but also for the 149 souls who met their end in the tragic crash in the French Alps.

And that there is a Transcendent Lawgiver, who admonishes us to love our neighbour as ourselves.

In fact, He is much more than that. For those who know Him, He is the loving and compassionate Heavenly Father who can be approached by prayer.
