100 Million Persecuted Christians - International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church on Sunday, 3rd November
Joel Kontinen
Did you know that over 100 million Christians are persecuted right now, as you read these lines?
Following Jesus is not always easy, but in some cultures it is very dangerous. The world hates the true light (Jesus) and those who identify with Him.
Tomorrow, 3rd November, is the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church. Don’t forget to pray for those who are being persecuted for their faith.

200 million Christians are facing persecution

Persecutions are nothing new to Christians. Jesus predicted them and according to early Christian tradition all the apostles except John were martyred for their faith.
Persecutions have not abated in all parts of the world. Especially North Korea, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, China, Pakistan, Iran, Eritrea and Vietnam mistreat Christians.
In many Muslim countries, conversion to Christianity is punishable by death. All too few people in the West know or are willing to speak about this glaring breach of human rights.
Next Sunday (November 21st) is an International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church. There are surprisingly many persecuted Christians in the world, approximately 200 million.

Bibles are being burned – but this does not interest the mainstream media

When the pastor of a tiny American church says he will burn Qur’ans, the media all over the world are abuzz with the news. Pastor Terry Jones never even carried out his threat.
But when Bibles and burned and destroyed, the mainstream media keep silent. Today, The Voice of the Martyrs newsletter reported on the persecution of Christians in Laos. Village dwellers who practice traditional religions believe that the Bible is a dangerous book, the source of bad luck and misfortune.
Laos is not the only country in which Bibles are burnt and Christians persecuted. The Voice of the Martyrs reports on many other places where it is dangerous to be a follower of Jesus Christ.
Will the mainstream media ever wake up to report on the persecutions that Christians are suffering from in many countries?
