The Christian love
and charity were close to the queen, who
promised due “to the utmost of [her] power to maintain the Laws of God and the
true profession of the Gospel…[and] maintain in the United Kingdom the
Protestant Reformed Religion established by law.”
She attended church services weekly and
frequently made reference to her Christian faith, especially in her annual
Christmas addresses. On Christmas Day, 2000, she told the world that “the
teachings of Christ and my own personal accountability before God provide a
framework in which I try to lead my life.”
In
2015 she quoted a text from the Gospel of John: "The light shines in the
darkness, the darkness has not overcome it. "
