22 million years is a long time, including in evolution. It is three times the much that a chimpanzee or the like turned into a man.  And the time a wolve like animal turned into awhale.

The plesiosaurs lived between during the Cretaceous Period, which spanned from 145 million years ago to 66 million years ago.

”’ Basically, in anything except Living fossils, youdon't go 22 million years without evolving,’ said Jacobs, professor emeritus of Earth Sciences at SMU and president of ISEM at SMU.”

SMU stands for Southern Methodist University.
