Sydney McLaughlin, US Olympian Gold Medalist Gives “All Glory to God”
After Breaking her Five mounts old World Record. She is not the only believing athlete
in the Olympics.
South Africa’s Tatiana Schoenmaker,
who won the 200-meter backstroke, is also a Christian, as is a part of the
Fiji rugby team, who sang praise to the Lamb and praise to God after winning
gold in Tokyo.

records at the games this week, has worn a swim cap under her official team cap
that reads “Soli Deo Gloria”—all the glory to God.

Olympic swimmer Tatjana Schoenmaker set a new record Wednesday in the women’s
200-meter breaststroke — and she used her spotlight to point others to God.
Underneath her green swim cap, Schoenmaker wore a
white one with a Jesus fish and the phrase “Soli Deo Gloria,” which means
“Glory to God alone,” printed on the side of it.
“Father God, may Your will be done, may Your peace
fill us up, may we praise You no matter what the outcome, may we be empowered
by Your strength to give our all and may we forever be in awe of Your
goodness!” she wrote in an Instagram post as she traveled to Tokyo for the
Olympics. “Thank You for bringing us to this very
moment.”
Schoenmaker set a new record for the women’s 200-meter
breaststroke on Wednesday during the preliminary rounds of the event with a
time of 2:19.16, then won gold and set a new record with a time of 2:18.95.
She
also broke a record during the preliminary rounds for the 100-meter
breaststroke on Monday.
Ahead of the games, the
Christian swimmer posted a prayer to Twitter and Instagram praying for God’s
will to be done and that, no matter what, His name would be glorified.
